Former champ to watch the game

Former football player Erik Rockhold proudly wears his Shelby High varsity jacket as he's headed to the game. Rockhold was the kicker for the 1998 Shelby team that defeated Tarboro 34-14 to win the State 2AA Championship. He went on to kick for Appalachian State University winning two Southern Conference championships. He is now a kicker for the Reading Express, a team in the American Indoor Football Association.

He said he will be in the stands looking for fellow alumni and cheering on his Golden Lions.

"I think Shelby should win," said Rockhold. "They've played a lot stronger schedule."

He said he doesn't know anyone on the bus or that is going to the game but being among so many wearing the Shelby black and gold is great.

"It's just fun being around the Shelby people," said Rockhold.
